METAKERMIS is an open platform curated by Eric Thielemans, drummer-percussionist, and Jürgen Augusteyns, guitarist. Both are known to navigate resolutely according to their own compass and eagerly seek out experimentation.
What happens when one is suddenly presented with an instrument different from the one he/her is used to? How does one connect with it? How significant are the tactile and physical parameters of that instrument or the tactile pathways one holds in their body? Is there such a thing as universal musicality?
Eric and Jürgen took the leap during a two-day recording session at Kunstencentrum Nona, where they eagerly swapped instruments. Their recording is the first in a series of adventurous ensembles operating according to that same protocol. Not necessarily presented uniquely as a recording, METAKERMIS also stages live performances with various collaborators/guests in different formations.
